TC Central’s Peregrine Commits to Hope College

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City Central senior cross country athlete Kelly Peregrine announced her commitment to Hope College on Monday.

Peregrine overcame a herniated disc in her lower back as a middle schooler, becoming a member of Central’s varsity program her senior year.

"I was diagnosed when I was in seventh grade… and I just didn’t really accept that, I didn’t accept that it was the end,” she said.

This past season, Peregrine helped lead the Trojans to a Division 1 regional title and a ninth-place finish at the MHSAA Division 1 state finals, marking the program’s 12th consecutive top-10 finish in the event.

Peregrine joins a Hope program that captured the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship and Great Lakes Regional title, finishing 28th at the NCAA Division III National Championships.

"From my experience and just with my injury, I hope to bring an attitude of optimism and perseverance, teaching them endurance and just kind of helping girls who may be injured or are struggling with challenges,” Peregrine said. “I hope to just be an example for them and be a supporter, you know, a cheerleader for my teammates."

She plans to study nursing.
