TC Central Set to Host Scott Miller Memorial Tournament

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City Central’s annual Scott Miller Memorial Tournament is set to take over Centre Ice Arena this week.

The eight-team tournament begins Wednesday evening and runs through Friday afternoon.

Renamed in honor of 1982 Central graduate and former player Scott Miller, who passed away at age 47 in 2010 after a motorcycle accident, the tournament expanded from six teams to eight in 2001.

This year’s edition features Traverse City Central and West, the Bay Area Reps, Midland, Saginaw Heritage, Toledo St. John’s, Grosse Pointe Woods University Liggett and two-time defending champion Plymouth Salem.

"Those teams enjoy coming here. We’ve never had any issues with them,” Central coach Chris Givens said. “You know, we’ve basically told all of them that, you can continue to come until you decide that you don’t want to. They’re always very competitive teams, and this year in particular, very even field. Really, the tournament’s up for grabs for anyone."

The puck drops Wednesday at 6 p.m. from Centre Ice.
