Mt. Pleasant’s Ricumstrict Drafted by Texas Rangers
MT. PLEASANT – Mt. Pleasant senior short stop Obie Ricumstrict was selected by the Texas Rangers with the 344th overall pick in the 11th round of the 2017 MLB Draft on Wednesday.
A University of Cincinnati commit, Ricumstrict is the second Mt. Pleasant native to be drafted in as many days, joining 2014 Mt. Pleasant graduate and current Morehead State junior left-handed pitcher Aaron Leasher, who was selected by the San Diego Padres in the sixth round with the 168th overall pick on Tuesday. Leasher and Ricumstrict starred on Mt. Pleasant’s 2014 MHSAA Division 2 state championship squad.
A four-year starter, Ricumstrict, the son of longtime Central Michigan defensive line coach George Ricumstrict, garnered Second Team All-State honors in 2015 and led the Oilers to a Division 2 state runner-up finish in 2015. A multi-sport athlete, Ricumstrict was a key member of Mt. Pleasant’s varsity boys basketball and football programs.
Leasher led the Ohio Valley Conference in wins in 2017 with nine and was named a First Team All-OVC member. Going 9-3 with a 4.19 ERA and 105 strikeouts, Leasher is the second pitcher in Morehead State history to record back-to-back 100 strikeout seasons.
