TC St. Francis Falls in D3 Title Game
EAST LANSING – An historic run to the MHSAA Division 3 state finals ended for the top-ranked Traverse City St. Francis baseball team on Saturday.
Facing traditional state power Madison Heights Bishop Foley, the Gladiators dropped a 3-0 contest at Michigan State.
Scoreless through 4 1/2 innings, the Ventures broke through in the bottom of the fifth by scoring three runs with two outs. Until that point, St. Francis starter Casey Peterson had surrendered just two hits through the opening four innings.
Peterson ended his day by allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out three over six innings of work.
Connor Sweet paced the Gladiators at the plate, going 2-for-3. Gabe Callery, Keaton Peck, Danny Passinault and Nathan Schmuckal all had hits for St. Francis.
Justin Campbell struck out eight and did not issue a walk in seven innings for Bishop Foley.
St. Francis ends its season at 38-4.
