Straits Area Announces Baseball All-Conference Teams


The Straits Area Conference has released its 2017 baseball all-conference teams.

Below is a listing of student-athletes receiving recognition.

First Team

Catcher: Hunter Coneset (Sault Ste. Marie)

Infielders: Alex Morehouse (Sault Ste. Marie), Hayden Schneider (Cheboygan), Matt Grisdale (Cheboygan), Dylan Mills (Rudyard)

Outfielders: Jose Jenero (Rudyard), Kegan Comps (Cheboygan), Ben Skinner (Sault Ste. Marie)

      PINE RIVER – Mason County Central baseball held on in the seventh inning, to top Reed City 2-1 in its opening district game. The Spartans are paired with Pine River Saturday, June 4, in a Division 3 district semifinal.

      KINGSLEY – Two runs in the seventh inning propelled Manton baseball over Kingsley 5-4. The Rangers advance to their Division 3 district semifinal, where they’ll take on Benzie Central, Saturday, June 4.

      Onekama baseball sweeps Baldwin

      BALDWIN - Onekama baseball jumped on Baldwin early and often in its away doubleheader on Monday, winning 18-0 and 18-2. The Portagers entered the third inning with a 15-0 lead. Randy Pienta, who started on the mound for Onekama, helped himself out with a single through the left side of the infield. Jacob Mauntler scored on the hit for the game’s 16th run.
