Eight Area Athletes Prep for All-Star Game

Posted:

UNIVERSITY CENTER – Eight northern Michigan seniors will cap off their high school careers at Saturday’s 35th Michigan High School Football Coaches Association East/West All-Star Game.

Hosted by Saginaw Valley State, Glen Lake’s Duke Angers (defensive end), Traverse City St. Francis’ Gabe Callery (defensive back), Reed City’s Logan Straub (linebacker) and Traverse City Central’s Fitz Doud (linebacker) will highlight the West team’s defense while Morley Stanwood’s Nic Huntey, Grayling’s Camden Summers (quarterback), Mt. Pleasant’s Jerry Parra (wide receiver) and Sean Fitzgerald (offensive line).

Mt. Pleasant head coach Jason McIntyre will head up the West coaching staff and will be assisted by fellow Oiler coach Andrew Biedenbender.

"It's pretty awesome. It's a great honor,” Callery said. “It's fun to be able to be with some of the other Traverse City kids like Fitz and Duke.”

"I mean it's a little unique at first, but once you meet the players, talk to them, we're all just excited to play football,” added Doud said.

Kickoff Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
