Decorated Daugherty: Big Rapids Native Nominated to Allstate Good Works Team

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State center Jake Daugherty has been chosen as a nominee for the 2017 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.

The award is given to collegiate football players to recognize their dedication to others and their selfless acts off of the field. Daugherty is one of the 146 nominees that range from all divisions of college football, only 22 are chosen as finalists.

“Honestly, it feels amazing, “Daugherty said. “Growing up in Big Rapids until now, being 22 and finishing my time here has been incredible. Being able to be a role model for the youth and giving back to all of the elementary, middle, and high schools has been some of my proudest memories.”

In addition to his volunteering, Daugherty is a two-time All-American, two-time All-GLIAC first team member, GLIAC All-Academic member, All-Super Region nominee and a 2016 Gene Upshaw Award Nominee. He also helped the bulldogs to two conference championships and a record-breaking 563 total points for the season.

“After looking at the bios of the 146 nominees we received for the 2017 AFCA Good Works team, it really shows that there are great football student-athletes all over the country who don’t just care what happens between the sidelines, but they also care about their community and giving back to others,” AFCA Executive Director Todd Berry said in a statement. “The AFCA has been proud to partner with Allstate these past 10 years to honor football players who give more of themselves to help others in need.”

The Big Rapids native is looking forward to another season of work on and off the field.

“I love Big Rapids, I love Ferris State, and I can’t wait to continue what we have going on here,” Daugherty said.
