Third-Rounder Zablocki Reflects on Development Camp

Posted:

TRAVERSE CITY – The Detroit Red Wings picked up 11 players in the 2017 NHL draft, and all 11 of them were in attendance for the annual development camp in Traverse City.

Lane Zablocki, the Red Wings 2017 NHL draft third-round selection was stunned to hear his name called back on June 24.

"I really didn't believe it at first. It was kind of surreal. So, it kind of sunk in later that day, and then really for even the next week, it didn't feel real until I got here, and now it's starting to kick in a little bit, after the first skate,” he said.

The Alberta native split time in the WHL for the Regina Pats and the Red Deer Rebels last season where he racked up 54 points in 64 games. He then added eight more in the playoffs.

Aside from his point productivity, Zablocki hopes to bring something a little different to Detroit. The forward rousing his opponents.

“I'm a hard-hitting forward.  I like to get under people's skin. I'm an agitator out there. But I also have an offensive side to my game,” he said.

Zablocki acquired almost 100 penalty minutes last season in his time with the Pats and the Rebels. The 18-year-old will most likely be in attendance for the annual NHL prospect tournament in Traverse City in September, although the Red Wings have not released the camp roster yet.
