Cadillac sweeps Division 2 ski regional

CADILLAC – Behind Alex Netzley’s sweep of the slalom and giant slalom, the Cadillac boys ski team captured its second consecutive Division 2 regional championship at Caberfae Peaks on Wednesday.

The Vikings won the event with 87 points, besting Flint Powers (116.5) and Harrison (164.5).

Netzley won the slalom with a time of 47.70 and the giant slalom in 1:00.55.

Cadillac also took home its second straight regional on the girls side, posting 65 points to top Benzie Central (117) and Glen Lake (133).

Benzie Central’s Morgan Papineau won the slalom (49.45) and finished second in the giant slalom 1:02.03).

The top three finishing teams on both sides advance to the Division 2 state finals at Bellaire’s Schuss Mountain on Feb. 29.

Traverse City West girls win D1 regional

In a Division 1 regional at Bellaire’s Schuss Mountain, the Traverse City West girls program secured a first-place finish with 75 points.

Traverse City Central finished second with 80 points, while Marquette rounded out the top three with 82.

On the boys side, Marquette won the event with 26 points, followed by West in second with 88 and Central in third with 111.

Both Central and West programs qualified for the Division 1 state finals at Marquette Mountain on Feb. 29.
