Gaylord student-athletes take talents to the GLIAC
GAYLORD – A pair of Gaylord High School senior student-athletes singed their National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, announcing their college commitments.
Offensive lineman Kyle Augustine and soccer forward Brandi Wagner will both take their talents to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, with Augustine heading above the Mackinac Bridge to Northern Michigan, while Wagner heads south to Ferris State.
With future plans of being a DNR officer, Augustine says he felt right at home at NMU.
"Being able to play college football, not very many kids get to do that, and to be able to be one of them, I feel blessed,” Augustine said. “I love the coaching staff; they were great guys, guys that I could definitely see myself with for the next four years. The atmosphere up there, everyone was always very nice."
Wagner, a four-year letterwinner, led the Blue Devils to a 14-9-1 record in 2015 and a district runner-up finish, tallying 18 goals and 10 assists in the process.
"It has always been a big part of what I wanted to do when I got to college, was still continue to be in a sport,” Wagner said. “I’m just happy knowing that I get to continue what I love doing. If you’re willing to be committed and your parents and friends and family support you, then you can achieve anything.”
