Pine River wrestling claims second straight regional title

LEROY – The Pine River wrestling program captured its second consecutive Division 4 regional championship on Wednesday.

The Bucks recorded a 69-12 win over Charlevoix in the championship match, handing Farwell a 55-15 defeat earlier in a semifinal.

Charlevoix advanced to the finals via a 51-18 win over Frankfort in the semifinals.

Pine River advances to next Friday’s Division 4 state quarterfinals at Central Michigan University’s McGuirk Arena.

In other regional action, Chippewa Hills claimed a Division 3 regional with a 33-27 win over Caro, while Hesperia won a Division 4 title with a 43-27 victory over St. Louis.

Gaylord also won a Division 2 regional, edging Flint Kearsley, 33-27, in the final.
