TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City West baseball team retained the Murchie Memorial Trophy for the second straight year with a doubleheader sweep of rival Traverse City Central on Tuesday.
The Titans (8-0) rallied for a 2-1 win in the opener and followed up with a 2-0 shutout victory in the nightcap.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and the bases loaded, West plated the tying run on a hit batter and then scored the winning run on the next at-bat on a Central wild pitch, completing the comeback.
Central opened the scoring in the top of the fourth on a groundout from Matt Baker.
