Petoskey Hosts Sault Ste. Marie in Second Annual Purple for a Cause

PETOSKEY – The Petoskey softball team recorded a non-league twinbill sweep of visiting Sault Ste. Marie on Thursday.

The Northmen opened with a 13-6 win and closed out with an 11-1 victory.

Thursday’s doubleheader marked Petoskey’s second annual Purple for a Cause game, which raises awareness for cystic fibrosis.

Northmen bat boy Kurtis Mainland was honored prior to the opening game and tossed the contest’s first pitch to senior Halie Gibson.

"We felt honored to be part of it,” said Megan Mainland, Kurtis’s mother. “Ever since it’s happened, we’ve become part of the team.  We’ve all done things together. We come to the games. We work the games. The girls… take Kurtis under their wing, and our whole family."
