Inland Lakes Returns to State Finals

INDIAN RIVER – After fending off a late-inning rally by Rogers City on Tuesday, the Inland Lakes softball program is returning to the MHSAA Division 4 state semifinals for the first time since 1999.

The fifth-ranked Bulldogs (32-3) will face No. 7 Holton, which knocked off No. 1 Coleman in Tuesday’s quarterfinal, on Friday at Michigan State.

Coach Krissi Thompson, who played on the 1999 state semifinal team, says Tuesday’s 8-7 win over Rogers City was the perfect preparation for the state finals.

“It definitely builds your momentum,” she said. “You know, we’re just really proud of them. I’ve got a great coaching staff that helps me and, they’re truly amazing. They’ve helped these girls get to where they need to be and we couldn’t be more excited.”

The winner of Friday’s semifinal will face either Morenci or No. 2 Unionville Sebewaing.

First pitch Friday is set for 5:30 p.m.
