Local Athletes Head to MHSFCA All-Star Game

UNIVERSITY CENTER – With the return of the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association All-Star game this weekend, a handful of northern Michigan athletes are set to close out their prep careers on a high note.

After a two-year absence in which the MHSFCA took part in a pair of all-star contests with the Ohio High School Football Coaches Association, the 34th edition of Michigan’s all-star game returns to the campus of Saginaw Valley State University Saturday.

Recent Reed City graduate and Michigan Tech commit Taylor Pelton will suit up for the West squad Saturday.

"It’s really nice. I didn’t think I’d be able to put my high school pads on one more time, but really grateful that I can, and I’m excited to show people what Reed City football is all about,” Pelton said.

Pelton will be joined alongside Gage Kreski (St. Ignace), Dru McFadden (Traverse City St. Francis), Hayden Niepoth (Bellaire), Luke Sage (Boyne City), Hunter Buczkowski (Mt. Pleasant), Caleb Wisniski (Onekama) and Cameron Wright (Grant).

"It’s a real blessing to be out there wearing the West uniform, but underneath I’m still playing for McBain in a way. So it’s a real blessing and an honor,” Lucas said.

Kickoff Saturday is set for 1 p.m.
