TC St. Francis Leads State Finals After First Day
KALAMAZOO – The top-ranked Traverse City St. Francis girls tennis program finds itself atop the standings after the opening day of the MHSAA Division 4 state finals at Kalamazoo College.
Seeking their first state title, the Gladiators lead Bloomfield Hills Academy of Sacred Heart and Jackson Lumen Christi by a point, with 21 team points.
St. Francis advanced to semifinals in six of the eight flights, including at No. 1 singles, where senior Amanda Bandrowski will look to defend her state championship.
Anne Bandrowski (No. 3 singles), Tara Razenburg (No. 4 singles), Carlee McCardel/Jenna Tomczak (No. 1 doubles), Bethany Richey/Mary Margaret Sutherland (No. 2 doubles) and Nicole Ehardt/A.J. Flannery (No. 3 doubles) all moved on to Saturday’s semifinals.
Harbor Springs currently sits in 10th place with six points.
In Division 1 action at Midland Tennis Center, Traverse City Central’s third-seeded No. 1 doubles team of Isabel Lutz and Yana Beeker advanced to Saturday’s semifinals, where they’ll take on the second-seeded duo of Serena Wang and Maya Mulchandani of Northville.
At the Division 2 meet in Holland, Cadillac is currently in 17th place with three points.
