Beach Bums Eye Playoff Push

TRAVERSE CITY – Riding their best streak of games this season, the Traverse City Beach Bums are eyeing a strong second-half push to reach the Frontier League postseason.

The Beach Bums (23-31) open a three-game home series against cross-divisional Gateway Tuesday having won five of their last seven games, including a late-inning rally over the Evansville Otters on Sunday.

"It was nice to win a few games at the end of that first half, try to keep it rolling in the second half,” infielder Will Kengor said. “Good starting pitching, we’ve gotten a lot of good performances from those guys and the defense is really coming around. We want to take it one game at a time. You know, obviously we got Gateway tonight. We’d love to make the playoffs. Traverse City is a great place to play, a lot of fans come out and see us so we try to make them proud.”

Traverse City currently sits seven games back from East Division leader Joliet and five games out of one of two coveted Wild Card spots.

"We’re only three or four games worse than we were at this point last time, so it’s a nice place to be, we can sneak up on everybody,” manager Dan Rohn said.

Traverse City continues its series with Gateway at Wuerfel Park Wednesday at 7:05 p.m.
