Central Lake’s Hines to Play in Switzerland
Central Lake native and former Michigan State center Jasmine Hines is taking her basketball talents overseas.
The 2011 Michigan Miss Basketball recipient has signed to play professionally with Switzerland’s Pallacanestro Bellinzona.
“I am very excited because this has been kind of a crazy process trying to figure out what is the best fit for me,” Hines said in statement. “I wanted to go somewhere that has a good team, but is in a good area as well. It is kind of like recruiting in college.”
After leading Central Lake to a 26-1 record and a spot in the 2011 MHSAA Class D state semifinals, Hines continued on to MSU, where she concluded her concluded her collegiate career last season with 985 points and 601 rebounds in 131 games, which ranks eighth all-time in program history.
A four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Hines signed a free agent deal with the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks in April.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the world,” Hines said. “I have traveled abroad, but it has been with our team for basketball in Puerto Rico, Cancun or the Bahamas. I have never been anywhere in Europe, so I am excited to see the world a little but more and experience the culture.”
