TC West Hosts 7-on-7 Scrimmage
TRAVERSE CITY – With the start of high school two-a-days less than a month way, Traverse City West welcomed a trio of area schools to Thirlby Field on Monday for a 7-on-7 passing scrimmage.
Fresh off the Michigan State High School Athletic Association’s mandated summer dead period, Elk Rapids, Gaylord St. Mary and Frankfort went to work ironing out their respective offenses.
“It’s the first day back after the dead period,” West coach Tim Wooer said. “Outside of weight training, speed training, we don’t do much in June. So it’s kind of fun to just get back out there and get into things.”
For defending Northern Michigan Football League Leaders Division champions Frankfort, Monday’s scrimmage kicked off the summer season for the Panthers.
“Coming off the dead week, which I think is a necessity for kids, we want them to enjoy the summer and coaches to enjoy their families and spend some time together,” Frankfort coach Matt Stapleton said. “Tonight kind of kicks off the rest of the summer, as you try to get ready for August 8, because it’s going to come fast.”
West will host an eight-team 7-on-7 tournament Saturday at 10 a.m.
