Beal City, Farwell Highlight First Week of Sports Overtime

FARWELL – Farwell welcomes in rival and former Jack Pine Conference foe Coleman as our “MISportsNow Fans’ Choice Game of the Week” on Friday.

The Eagles are seeking their second straight win over the Comets after ending a two-game losing streak to Coleman a year ago.

For our “Overtime on the Road” matchup, Beal City will go for its ninth straight win over rival Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart.

"It doesn’t matter if we’ve won the last eight, because it’s a rivalry game. I mean, anything can happen,” coach Brad Gross said. “They’re going to give us everything that they’ve got. We’re going to give everything that we’ve got. When teams do that, you know, usually good things happen."

After spending time as a program assistant, Jamie Slate takes over at Sacred Heart, replacing longtime coach Rick Roberts, who retired at the end of the 2015 season.

"It runs deeper than just football. I mean, it’s truly a community-fueled rivalry,” Slate said. “It’s deep within the school system. This is not just something you see on the football field. It’s in the churches, and I mean, it’s community-wide."
