Beal City Tops Mt. Pleasant Sacred in “OT on the Road”

BEAL CITY – Holding a commanding 26-0 halftime lead, Beal City recorded its eighth consecutive win over rival Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, winning 34-8,  in our “Overtime on the Road” matchup on Friday.

Kyle Yuncker opened the scoring for the Aggies (1-0) on their first possession with a 59-yard scoring scamper.

Later in the first quarter, Lucas Schumacher connected with Thomas McCann from 22 yards out to put Beal City up 14.

"I think the key was that we might have wore them out a little bit, but I think we executed,” Beal City coach Brad Gross said. “When we came out on that first play of the game and basically took them, scored a touchdown, I think it took the wind out of their sales a little bit.

“It’s early but you need every win you can get every year and I’ve said it all year, we’re a young team and we’re going to get better every week so that’s our main goal, every week is to get better."

Leading 14-0 after the first, Brett Upton gave the Aggies a 20-point lead on a 7-yard run in the final minute of the first half.

With the Irish (0-1) trailing 34-0 late in the fourth, Carter Lowe ended Sacred Heart’s scoreless drought with a 5-yard touchdown run.

Beal City hosts Clare next Friday, while Sacred Heart visits Carson City-Crystal.
