Brethren Jumps to 8-Man Football
BRETHREN – After playing just a five-game schedule a year ago, Brethren makes the move to 8-man football in 2016.
The Bobcats reached the postseason for just the second time in program history in 2014, but did not kick off their 2015 season until Week 4, ending the year at 1-4.
With a number of seniors returning, Brethren joins the newly formed Midwest Central Michigan 8-player Football Conference, playing alongside Traverse City Christian, Forest Area, Marion, Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian, Big Rapids Crossroads and Manistee Catholic Central.
"I think we’ll be balanced, but with the first year in 8-man football, defense is kind of a question mark for us scheme wise,” coach Alvin Rischel said. “I think it’s a matter of getting athletes in the right position. Offensively, I think we’re going to be able to move the ball really well. We’ve got some senior leadership we can lean on and we’ve got some younger underclassmen and that’s the exciting thing about high school football is kids move out and it makes room for younger kids to step up and fill their shoes. So we think we have some kids that can do that and we’re excited."
Brethren opens its season at Traverse City Christian on Aug. 27.
