Evart Brings Confidence Into 2016
EVART – After recording a pair of wins in 2014, the Evart football team doubled its win total a year ago, winning its final two contests.
The Wildcats are not far removed from posting three consecutive winning seasons (2011-13) and back-to-back postseason appearances (2012-13) and believe they can make it back to the playoffs in 2016.
“We learned that we need to be one or two plays better, and we came up short last year a few games that we could have had a different outcome,” coach Pat Craven said. “We’re really focused on taking those one or two or three plays per game that can determine the outcome and try and be better at those spots."
After upsetting Highland Conference co-champion Beal City last season, Evart is confident it can potentially contend for the top spot in the league.
"Beal City, Manton and McBain, those three will be the key games, like last year, and I think we have a good chance this year to make it into the top three in the conference and maybe even the top conference spot,” senior Andrew Booher said.
Evart opens its season by hosting White Cloud on Aug. 26. The Wildcats also have non-league games against Harrison (Sept. 1), Holton (Oct. 14) and Baldwin (Oct. 21).
