Hillman Sets Sights on First District Title

HILLMAN – With 10 straight postseason bids to its credit, Hillman has established itself as one of the premier football programs in the North Star League.

Winners of consecutive NSL Little Dipper titles, the Tigers will look to take it a step further in 2016 by claiming the program’s first district title.

"I think our leadership this year is better than it has been in a few years past. You know, it’s not a whole bunch of kids just out there running their mouth, it’s actually kids who are trying to lead the rest of this group along and I think that’s going to help us out,” coach Bill Koenig said. “Billy Kolcan has gotten faster, he’s more experienced behind, you know, taking the snaps. He has really put a lot of time in the weight room and I think the offseason is what has really improved for this group of kids."

The Tigers graduated eight seniors from last year’s squad but return veteran leadership under starting quarterback Billy Kolcan.

"It’s going to be a good year, I’m extremely excited to be out there and play for him,” Kolcan said. “My arm strength is so much better and my accuracy is better. I think it’ll be a good year.”

Hillman opens its season at Onekama on Aug. 25.
