Houghton Lake Hopes Experience Pays Off in 2016
HOUGHTON LAKE – All-state running back Gavin Masse returns to lead a Houghton Lake squad hungry for a postseason berth in 2016.
Despite a 3-6 record a year ago, the 2015 season could have looked very different for the Bobcats, with three of their six losses coming by a combined 13 points.
"Our focus all offseason has been winning those close games,” coach Joey Holloway said. “We lost three games in the fourth quarter and the last possessions, so that 3-6 season could have been 6-3. So how do we improve on the things we didn’t do well? You know, why did we collapse in the fourth quarter in some of those situations? That’s been a focus, we are going to really work on that in practice.
“I think in the end hard work always pays off and our kids have worked hard.”
Houghton Lake is moving in the right direction, though, as the three wins a year ago matched their combined win total from the previous three seasons.
The Bobcats look towards their first winning season since 2010 and first playoff appearance since 2009.
Houghton Lake opens its season with a pair of home games against Breckenridge (Aug. 25) and Harbor Springs (Sept. 1).
