Lugnuts Fall to Hot Rods in Series Opener

LANSING – Despite an early two-run lead, the Lansing Lugnuts fell for the second straight night, losing 7-2 in their series opener with the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Cooley Law School Stadium.

Max Pentecost opened the scoring for Lansing (55-54) in the bottom of the first, driving in Andrew Guillotte on a triple to center field. Pentecost scored later in the inning on a throwing error on a failed pickoff attempt.

The Hot Rods (62-45) then scored twice in the third to tie the game and went ahead by tacking on five runs over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.

Guillotte and JC Cardenas combined for four of Lansing’s seven hits on the night.

Jordan Romano was saddled with the loss after allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out three over the first six innings.

The two teams will meet again Thursday.

First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.
