Mancelona Led by Senior-Laden Team in 2016
MANCELONA – With a young and inexperienced roster, the Mancelona football program saw its streak of nine consecutive winning seasons and eight postseason berths snapped last fall.
With a senior-laden group taking to the field in 2016, the Ironmen have their sights set on returning to their winning ways.
"If we can stay healthy, we’ll be alright,” coach Dan Derrer said “If we start getting injuries, and we’re going to be moving guys around, and probably playing positions that they normally wouldn’t play which is what happened to us last year… We don’t have a lot of depth, so we’re going to really have to stay healthy."
The Ironmen join the newly formed Northern Michigan Football League Leaders division this year, playing alongside Charlevoix, Frankfort, Mesick, Onekama, Suttons Bay and Glen Lake.
"We need to make sure that we do our jobs, and execute everything perfectly,” senior Tristan Richardson said. “I’m excited to see how it’ll all turn out."
Mancelona opens its season at Johannesburg-Lewiston on Aug. 26.
