Mason County Central Look to Build off Historic 2015
SCOTVILLE – Winning four of its final five games, the Mason County Central football team made history a year ago, clinching a postseason berth for the first time in 10 seasons.
The Spartans continued their historic season in the postseason with a 42-18 win over Lake City before falling to eventual Division 6 state semifinalist Traverse City St. Francis in a district final.
Last year’s 7-4 campaign also marked the second straight winning season for Central.
Although more than a dozen players return from last year’s squad, staying healthy will be pivotal for the Spartans, who sport a smaller roster in 2016.
"We have about 12 guys coming back, so that’s a positive,” coach Scott Briggs said. “Obviously, you can’t rest on your laurels. You got to build from what you did last year, and continue to work hard. Because of our numbers, we obviously can’t go 11-on-11 in practice… We’ve just got to come together as a team, and play hard and keep fighting, and working towards perfect effort. I think we can do that. We’ll be good."
Central opens its season at Benzie Central on Aug. 25.
