Mesick Joins New League for 2016

MESICK – After the disbandment of the Northwestern Six Football League, Mesick makes the move to the Northern Michigan Football League Leaders division this fall.

Coming off a 2-7 season, the Bulldogs are eyeing their first winning season since 1999 and first postseason berth and second in school history since 1995.

"Our team strengths definitely appear to be the speed. I was not anticipating having so many quick guys,” coach Josh Crocker said. “We’ve got a few new players out for the first time, so that’s definitely helped. We’ve got a number of our linemen back from last year, so we’re hoping that our linemen and our speed will be our two biggest strengths."

Mesick is joined in the NMFL Leaders by Glen Lake, Mancelona, Suttons Bay, Frankfort, Onekama and Charlevoix.

"I think we’re a pretty versatile group of guys,” added senior Ethan Humphreys. “We have a couple guys that are finally playing that haven’t played in the past couple years, and we could really use them on the field."

Mesick opens its season at home against Central Lake on Aug. 26.
