Senior-Heavy Class Leads Glen Lake

MAPLE CITY – The largest senior class during coach Jerry Angers’ tenure at Glen Lake is set to take the field on Friday nights this fall.

Fresh off their fourth postseason bid in six seasons, the Lakers return 17 players with varsity experience from last year’s 5-5 squad, including 16 seniors.

“Our defense played real well last year. We did a lot of good things,” Angers said. “Our offense continued to get better, week in and week out, and I think that’s the biggest thing as you can tell by us getting to the playoffs, by winning all those last games. I think that’s one of the biggest things that we carry over to this year was we’re going to be able to build on how we ended the season last year with some younger, new talent.”

After securing wins in four of its first five games a year ago, Glen Lake knows it will need another fast start this season.

“We got to make sure we focus up early on in the season and we got to make sure we’re studying plays,” senior Jacob Palmer said. “Everything’s got to kind of get started from the beginning. We got to make sure that we’re progressing as a team and not leaving anyone behind.”

The Lakers open their season at home against Kingsley on Aug. 26 before traveling to Traverse City St. Francis on Sept. 1.
