Ferris State Tabbed Fourth, LSSU Seventh in WCHA Preseason Poll

BIG RAPIDS – Defending Western Collegiate Hockey Association Final Five champion Ferris State was selected to finish fourth in the WCHA Men’s Hockey Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.

Bulldog senior forward Gerald Mayhew was tabbed the Preseason WHCA Player of the Year, joining fellow Ferris State forward Corey Mackin on the Preseason All-WCHA Team.

After advancing to the NCAA tournament for the third time in five years last season, Ferris State received 71 points in the voting on Tuesday.

Bowling Green picked to finish first, receiving 89 points and eight of the 10 first-place votes, followed by Michigan Tech with two first-place votes and 79 points. Minnesota State was third, then Northern Michigan (fifth), Bemidji (Minn.) State (sixth), Lake Superior State (seventh), Alaska Anchorage (eighth), Alabama Huntsville (ninth) and Alaska (10th).

Ferris State opens its season at home with a two-game series against Alabama Huntsville (Oct. 1-2).
