TC West in Fourth After Day 1; Cox Paces D4 Field
EAST LANSING – Defending MHSAA Division 1 state champion Traverse City West finds itself in fourth place after the first day of the state finals at Michigan State’s Forest Akers East on Friday.
The Titans finished with a round of 324, trailing first-round leader Rochester by 14 strokes. Bloomfield Hills is in second after shooting a 321, followed by Saline with a 322.
West sophomore Anika Dy is in a three-way tie for first as an individual after recording a 72. Hunter Kehoe also shot a 78 for the Titans, while Maddy McCall (86), Grace Ellul (88) and Megan Jenkinson (88) rounded out the team scoring.
Cox paces D4 field
Two-time defending Division 4 individual state champion Nichole Cox of Glen Lake leads by six strokes after the first day of competition at Forest Akers West, recording an even-par 72.
Calli O’Neill paced the Rams with a 93, while Charlevoix’s Emily Sabsook and Shepherd’s Olivia Raymond recorded a 94 and 99, respectively. Katherine Hopkins led St. Francis with a 1-2.
Competing individually, Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart’s Ayesha Mohan and Hadyn Terwilleger fired a 112 and 117, respectively.
Cardinals in ninth after first round
Big Rapids sits in ninth place after the first day of competition at the Division 3 meet at Battle Creek’s Bedford Valley.
The Cardinals recorded a 406, trailing first-place Spring Lake by 63 strokes.
Rebecca Herzog led Big Rapids with a 99.
Competing as an individual, Tri-County’s Julie Bice shot a 106.

Kelbel shot an 88 on Friday, while Reilly tallied an 89.
