Charlevoix Ends Historic Season in State Semis

CEDAR SPRINGS – A historic season for the Charlevoix boys soccer program came to an end Wednesday in a Division 3 state semifinal.

Appearing in a semifinal for the first time in program history, the 12th-ranked Rayders fell 3-1 to No. 1 Grand Rapids Catholic Central in a game played at Cedar Springs.

Charlevoix found itself trailing 2-0 at the half on a pair of goals by Catholic Central’s Alec Winden.

Fernando Garcia would give Catholic Central a 3-0 cushion in the 54th minute, with Blaise Snabes finding the back of the net for Charlevoix in the 68th minute.

"Unfortunately, they got the first goal,” Charlevoix coach Jonathon Boss said. “They got the momentum shift to go towards on their end… But that’s just the way it goes. They outplayed us this game, for the full 80 minutes, and it’s sad, at one point, to know that it’s over, but it was a fun run. They will remember this.  I mean, we made history at Charlevoix, I mean, making it to the final four. Any way you look at it, that’s a successful season."

The Rayders graduate 12 seniors from this season’s roster.

Charlevoix finishes its year at 18-6-3.
