Detroit Pistons Moving to Little Caesars Arena in 2017-18

DETROIT – The Detroit Pistons announced Tuesday that the organization will move to downtown Detroit and play at the new Little Caesars Arena beginning with the 2017-18 season.

The Pistons will share the new arena with the Detroit Red Wings, with plans calling for the construction of a new practice facility and corporate headquarters.

With the announcement, Detroit becomes the 11th U.S. city to have its NHL and NBA teams share the same arena. It also marks the first full season that the Pistons will play in Detroit since moving out of the city in 1978 and the first time that all four major professional sporting teams will call Detroit home since 1974.

The Pistons have called The Palace of Auburn Hills home since 1988. Prior to that, Detroit played at the Pontiac Silverdome (1978-1988) and Cobo Arena (1961-1978).

Little Caesars Arena is set to open in Sept. 2017.
