Gaylord Carries Momentum Into District Semis

GAYLORD – With its stunning rally for a five-set win over Traverse City West on Tuesday, the Gaylord volleyball team not only shrugged off its season struggles but upended a program that had won 15 of a previous 18 Class A district titles.

Now the Blue Devils will look to topple Big North Conference third-place Petoskey Saturday in a district semifinal and move one step closer to district championship of their own.

"I’m just so excited for the seniors, because they get to continue their high school career playing, and then you know, with these younger players, that they get to play a little bit longer with these great seniors,” Gaylord coach Jamie Sehl said. “We played them twice… Same thing, we lost to them both other times, but you know, this third one could be different. This was probably the best that I’ve seen them play."

Gaylord and Petoskey will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday.
