Gaylord’s LaJoie Commits to Cornell

GAYLORD – Two-time individual wrestling state champion Dominic LaJoie of Gaylord announced his commitment to Cornell (N.Y.) University on Wednesday.

LaJoie led Gaylord to two of its most successful seasons in program history over the last two years, guiding the Blue Devils to back-to-back appearances in the MHSAA Division 2 team state semifinals. He won a Division 2 individual title in 2015 (112) and 2014 (103), finishing runner up at 119 pounds in 2016.

"Cornell’s been one of my, like, dream schools,” LaJoie said. “I just like how all of their guys’ attitudes are towards wrestling there, and then I finally got a letter in the mail from them… and… Honestly, since I was a little kid, it’s always been the dream, just wrestle in high school, then go to college after that, and pursue a national title. So I’m just real excited to see what I can do when I get out there."

The senior joins a Cornell program with a storied history. Currently ranked eighth in that nation, the Big Red have finished in the top 10 nationally each of the last nine years and have had seven wrestlers capture individual national championships since 2012.
