Glen Lake Embracing Community Support

MAPLE CITY – With less than 48 hours before kicking off the Division 6 state championship game, the Glen Lake football program is embracing the support of its community.

Traveling to Copper Country and Traverse City the last two weeks, the Glen Lake fan base and Leelanau County has turned out in support of the Lakers.

“It’s been very exciting, especially because we weren’t predicted to go this far, and it’s just been great to see our community rally behind the team,” Glen Lake athletic director Jennifer Johnston said. “This is what small communities are all about. When a team makes a run like this in the tournament, it’s just great to see everybody rally around the team and provide their support.”

Facing a Jackson Lumen Christi program with a storied tradition, the Lakers have embraced the role of underdog.

“Because we come from a small town, no one really expects us, like besides our town to get here to where we did and our town had trust in us the whole time, our fans,” Glen Lake senior Tony Duperon said. “The whole team had trust. The whole school, everyone just trusted us to get there.”

Friday’s kickoff from Ford Field is set for 4:30 p.m.
