Six Area Players Named to 8-Man All-State Team

POWERS, Mich. (AP) — Quarterback Jason Whitens of Powers North Central High School has been named The Associated Press 2016 Player of the Year for 8-man football in Michigan.

It is the second straight year he has received the honor.

Whitens headlines the 2016 All-State Team that also features North Central’s Bobby Kleiman, Deckerville’s Austin Spaetzel and Reese Bays-Kramer, Crystal Falls Forest Park’s Dan Nocerini, Ewen-Trout Creek’s Jake Witt, Pickford’s Wyatt Boik and Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian’s Braydon Sherrod.

North Central coach Kevin Bellefeuil was selected Coach of the Year.

Voting was by a panel of AP member sportswriters from around the state.
