TC St. Francis’ Phillips Signs with Saint Louis

TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City St. Francis dual-sport athlete Juliana Phillips signed her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to continue her volleyball career at Saint Louis (Mo.) University in the fall.

A year ago, Phillips guided the Gladiators to the Class C volleyball state semifinals and their second trip to Battle Creek since finishing state runner-up in 2012. A middle hitter, Phillips was named to the 2015 Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association’s Class C All-State first team and 2014 All-State third team.

"I think for me, the biggest part was, I really want to do nursing in college and then on from there,” Phillips said. “Saint Louis is a great program and the volleyball staff was really willing to work with me. It’s a Catholic college, and that was something really important to me, coming from a Catholic high school. It is a little far from home, but, just being on campus and everything, it just really felt like the perfect fit for me."

Phillips has found success on both the volleyball and basketball courts, leading the St. Francis girls basketball program to the 2015-16 Class C state title game and garnering Associated Press Class C honorable mention accolades in the process.

Phillips and the Gladiators are rolling again this fall. Ranked fifth in Class C, St. Francis will face league foe Charlevoix in a regional final Thursday.
