DeTour’s Bailey, Wilkie Announce College Commitments
DETOUR – A pair of DeTour student-athletes announced their college commitments on Monday.
Senior volleyball athlete Sarah Bailey and senior golfer Madison Wilkie both announced that they will continue their careers in their respective sports at Lake Superior State University next fall.
Wilkie guided DeTour to a runner-up finish at the 2016 U.P. Division 3 state finals at the Escanaba Country Club and became the first Raider since Erin Worden in 2007 to capture an individual state championship, carding an 85.
"Going together is going to be really fun,” Wilkie said. “We have been talking about it since freshman year on how we wanted to go to the same college. It’s actually happening now, so it’s just really surreal."
Bailey led the Raiders to a seventh-place finish in the final Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association rankings of the 2016 season and consecutive Class D district championships. DeTour ended its 2016 season with a regional semifinal loss to eventual state semifinalist Rogers City.
"I was pretty set on Lake State,” Bailey said. “I chose Lake State because it was only an hour away and I’d like to come back and see my family a lot more."
