TC Central Opens Santa Camp
TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Central boys and girls basketball programs welcomed youth players to its first Santa Camp on Wednesday.
With no holiday tournament this year, the Trojans are hosting second through eighth grade students in a two-day instructional camp.
“I tell the kids every year that we’re role models,” Central boys basketball coach Jeff Turner said. “Our players are role models for the young kids. They see them at the camps and they watch them. They come to the games and watch them.”
More than 160 boys and girls participated in the morning and afternoon session Wednesday.
“I really like this camp. We do a lot of fun drills,” camper George Goldkuhle said. The coaching’s really good and I like the interacting with the players. A lot of people don’t get in on the court because they can’t find one or they don’t want to, but this gives kids opportunities.”
“It feels really good because I always like to get better,” added Catelyn Heethuis. “It’s just nice to be taught by these high schoolers. It’s just a fun camp to come to. The coaches and just the skills that they teach us, they just teach us phenomenal skills that just makes us all get better.”
The money raised over the two-day camp benefits Central’s boys and girls basketball programs.
The camp continues Thursday morning.
