TRAVERSE CITY – With their annual holiday tournament off the schedule this year, the Traverse City Central boys and girls basketball teams are spending their time this week instructing Traverse City’s future hoop stars.
The Trojans are hosting their first Santa Camp. The two-day event takes place Wednesday and Thursday, with the boys camp running from 10 a.m. to noon and the girls from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Open to second through eighth-grade students, pre-registration ended last week, with 150 participants signing up. Some walk-ups will still be accepted, though, with a $35 registration fee.
"It’s going to help a ton, because then we can start introducing our vocabulary, and our different ways of doing things,” Central varsity boys coach Jeff Turner said. “For our kids, the big thing is what it provides our kids with, an opportunity to teach the game, so there’s another level of learning when you actually have to teach the game."
