Tulsa Topples CMU in Miami Beach Bowl

Dane Evans threw for 304 yards and five touchdowns as Tulsa toppled Central Michigan, 55-10, in the third annual Miami Beach Bowl on Monday.

Trailing 10-0 late in the first quarter, CMU’s Brian Eavey connected on a 26-yard field goal attempt with 55 seconds remaining to cap off a six-play, 70-yard drive.

Tulsa (10-3) would score 17 straight in the second to take a 27-3 lead at the half.

CMU’s lone touchdown came on a 13-yard rush by Jahray Hayes with 9:21 left in regulation.

Senior Cooper Rush concluded his collegiate career by completing 24-of-49 passing for 241 yards and three interceptions.

Rush finished 11 yards (12,894) shy of tying former CMU great Dan LeFevour for most career passing yards (12,905) in Mid-American Conference history.

Corey Willis led all CMU receivers with three catches for 63 yards, while Mark Chapman led the run game with two rushes for 38 yards.

CMU was appearing in its third straight bowl game and first in the state of Florida.

The Chippewas finished the year losing five of their final six games, closing out their 2016 campaign at 6-7. It is CMU’s worst record since going 3-9 in 2011.
