Ferris State Settles for Tie with Alaska

BIG RAPIDS – The Ferris State hockey team skated to 3-3 double overtime tie with visits Alaska Friday night.

Gerald Mayhew opened the scoring for the Bulldogs (7-13-4, 6-8-3-2 WCHA) midway through the opening period before Alaska’s Colton Leiter responded to tie the game at the first intermission.

In the second, Ferris State received goals from Chad McDonald and Andrew Dorantes to push the Bulldogs ahead 3-2 after three.

Troy Van Tetering would net the game-tying goal in the opening minutes of the third on the power play.

The Nanooks (6-14-3, 5-9-3-2 WCHA) then earned the extra point in the league standings with a goal in the second overtime period.

Alaska held a 50-39 edge on shots as Justin Kapelmaster registered 47 saves in net.

The two teams will meet against Saturday at 7:07 p.m.
