Mt. Pleasant Trio Announces College Commitments

MT. PLEASANT – A trio of Mt. Pleasant senior student-athletes announced their college commitments on Wednesday.

Offensive lineman Sean Fitzgerald and defensive back Jack Parra signed their National Letters of Intent to play at the University of Michigan and Northwood, respectively, in the fall.

A 2016 Associated Press Division 3-4 First Team All-Stater and honorable mention selection in 2015, Fitzgerald was a three-year starter for the Oilers and says attending Michigan has been a lifelong dream.

"I grew up watching Michigan football games with my dad and grandpa,” Fitzgerald said. “I’ve got a 6-foot M on my wall, it just, it worked out perfect."

A transfer from California, Parra, a 6-foot-2 defensive back, recorded two interceptions, returning one for a touchdown in 2016.

"It was very tough for me because I was from California and it was a big change for me,” Parra said. “My dream was to play college football and today it’s happening."

Also announcing her college commitment Wednesday was senior goalkeeper Ally Wentworth, who will head south to Alma College and its women’s soccer program in the fall.

"Ever since I was in sixth grade, I’ve wanted to play college soccer and for it to finally pay off in the past months is a great feeling,” she said.

Wentworth registered 105 saves and eight shutouts en route to leading the Oilers to a 16-5-1 record in 2016 and a Division 2 district championship. She was honored Saginaw Valley League First Team honors and was named to the All-District team.

She joins an Alma program that went 9-6-5 last year and finished fourth in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
