Petoskey Boys Win 7th Straight D2 State Title

HARBOR SPRINGS – The Petoskey boys ski program captured its seventh straight MHSAA Division 2 state championship Monday at Harbor Springs’ Boyne Highlands.

The Northmen finished ahead of Great North Alpine, Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood, Harbor Springs and Cadillac, respectively.

Cadillac’s Alex Netzley edged out Petoskey’s Mitch Makela to claim the giant slalom individual state title, while Great North Alpine’s Christian Stellin claimed third. Charlevoix’s Brad Klinger and Petoskey’s Ethan Siegwart rounded out the top five.

In the slalom, Makela held off Klinger to take the top spot, while Siegwart took home a third-place finish. Stellin rounded out the top five in fifth.

On the girls side, Harbor Springs’ Maddy Fuhrman finished fourth in the giant slalom and third in the slalom, leading the Rams to a third-place team finish. Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central won the state championship.

Pontiac Notre Dame Prep finished in second, while Houghton and Great North Alpine came home in fourth and fifth, respectively.
