Roscommon Eyeing State Quarterfinal Bid

ROSCOMMON – Fresh off winning its sixth district championship since 2011, the Roscommon wrestling program is now turning its attention to reaching the state quarterfinals.

Under the direction of first-year coach and 2012 Roscommon graduate Matt Morley, the Bucks are eyeing their first regional title since winning back-to-back crowns in 2011 and 2012.

Standing in Roscommon’s way though is a tough Pine River regional that features Oscoda, Frankfort and the Division 4 sixth-ranked hosts.

"Everyone we’re wrestling right now, we’ve never had to see before,” Morley said. “This is all new to us, all new to me, all new to my coaching staff and it’s definitely keeping us on our toes. Pine River is tough, we’re a tough team too. We’re going to go in there and give it all we got and that’s really all we can ever ask for, isn’t it?"

The Bucks will square off against Oscoda Wednesday in a regional semifinal.
