Coleman Sweeps Sanford Meridian

SANFORD – The Division 4 eighth-ranked Coleman softball program opened its 2017 campaign with a doubleheader sweep of Sanford Meridian on Wednesday.

Coleman opened with a 7-5 win and followed up with a 9-4 victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Comets (2-0) scattered six runs over the first six innings before allowing five runs in the bottom of the six.

Faith Barden earned the win, striking out nine over seven innings.

Jaden Berthume and Liza Dana both tallied three hits apiece, while Autumn Tubbs drove in three runs for Coleman.

Kaylee LaVack took the loss, fanning six.

Berthume led the way at the plate in the nightcap, recording three hits and two RBIs while striking out three over six innings to earn the win.

Coleman returns to action at Mid-State Activities Conference foe Merrill on Tuesday, April 11, while Sanford Meridian (0-2) travels to St. Louis on Thursday, April 13.
