Local Bowlers Place in Individual Tournament
Several local bowlers placed in the top 16 of their respective singles division, qualifying them for the Singles Finals tournament.
In Division 3, Jonah Montney entered the Finals as a four seed and advanced to the state finals. The Shepherd bowler ultimately lost to Battle Creek Pennfield’s James Ruoff, 395-349, to finish as the runner-up.
Gladwin’s Carley VanTiem won her first round matchup in Division 3 against Richmond’s Jessica Niebauer, 386-329. She lost to Marine City’s Alyssa Crampton in the next round, 373-356.
Harrison’s Natalie Lewandowski also qualified for the Division 3 Singles Finals, but lost in the first round, 353-345.
In Division 4, Beaverton had a pair of boys bowlers qualify for the Singles Finals. Chase Castro and Hunter Brink faced each other in the second round, with Castro winning 398-334. Castro ended up losing in the semifinals to Grass Lake’s Chase Elkins, 413-407.
Beaverton also had two bowlers qualify on the girls side, as did Rogers City. Beaverton’s Victoria Ivey lost in her first round matchup, 367-323. Her teammate Cheyenne Ficek advanced to the second round before losing to Hudson’s Jennifer Stratton.
Rogers City’s Chasta Ganski also advanced to the second round before losing to the eventual runner-up Paige Kortz.
In Division 2, Gaylord’s Adam Sobeck finished 11th in qualifying, matching him up with South Lyon’s Nick Dimitri in the first round. Sobeck lost 377-331.
On the girls side, Amber Doust qualified as the six seed, taking on Taylor Kennedy’s Abigail Bird. Doust won in the first round, 387-359. She lost in the second round of Pontiac Notre Dame Prep’s Michaella Merlo, 338-330.
