Boyne City Reloading in 2017

BOYNE CITY – After consecutive 20-win seasons and a spot in last year’s Division 3 regional final, the Boyne City baseball program is facing an adjustment period in 2017.

The Ramblers, who have gotten off to a 6-4 start this spring, graduated five of their top seven hitters from last season.

“We’re really young, but we’ve got a lot of ballplayers on the team,” senior Dominik Archey said. “We’ve got kids that really want to play baseball and that’s a good thing for a baseball team that’s coming back off really big seasons.

Despite needing to reload and retool its lineup, Boyne City is once against eyeing a lengthy postseason run.

“With the new pitching rules, that kind of thing, we’ve had a lot of kids have to step up into positions they really haven’t been in,” junior Ethan Hewitt said. “The young talent that’s come is really making us much better than I anticipated this year, and overall I’m really excited for the future.”

Boyne City returns to the diamond Saturday, hosting a tournament.
